This is so stupid! It can only be understood by reading the last part of the article: Several Democrats in recent weeks have said Gates should stay on if Barack Obama wins the presidential election, an appeal that has not been rejected by Gates, according to a Pentagon spokesman.
Political correctness is the only thing that is pushing this along...and political advancement too.
